Students Using Adaptive Multimedia Achieve Higher Completion and Retention Rates
New White Paper Highlights Proven Online Instructional Methodologies and Learning Outcomes
Rochester, NY – January 7, 2014 – Adapt Courseware, the provider of comprehensive adaptive multimedia that individualizes each student’s learning experience, has released its most recent student completion and retention data for the 2012-2013 academic year. Participating schools achieved, on average, a 16% higher course completion rate for students using the company’s adaptive multimedia compared to students enrolled in online sections using conventional curriculum. Term-over-term retention rates for students using adaptive multimedia averaged 18% higher than for students in the control sections, and every school that participated in the research produced double digit gains in retention. The improved outcomes were statistically reliable at the 92% and 97% confidence level, respectively.
“Schools using our adaptive multimedia have consistently produced stronger completion and retention rates by a wide margin…”
“We are really excited about these outcomes as they signify a transformational change in student behavior,” said Dr. John Boersma, CEO of Adapt Courseware and a former university faculty member. “Schools using our adaptive multimedia have consistently produced stronger completion and retention rates by a wide margin, not to mention students are performing better and earning higher grades in the majority of cases. We attribute these results to a better learning experience – one that gives students confidence that they really can succeed and one that dramatically increases student self-efficacy.”
The data validate the effectiveness of Adapt Courseware’s methodical and motivational adaptive learning approach. The company has extensively explored empirically-supported theories of learning and learner motivation, and implemented five key pedagogic design principles into its online, adaptive learning environment and curriculum materials. They include effective multimedia, mastery learning, optimal challenge, student choice, and social learning, which together, facilitate a productive, engaging and fun learning experience.
Dr. Boersma continued, “Online learning has been a great success story overall, but its future can be even brighter. Until now, the best multimedia, interactive, and analytic technologies have been underutilized. These are critical facets of a learning strategy that can help colleges and universities systematically increase student completion and retention.”
The outcomes by school, user testimonials, and Adapt Courseware’s key instructional design principles are presented in the company’s newly published white paper.
